Maine Restaurant Serves $40,000 Cocktail

You can do any number of exciting things with an extra $40,000 sitting in the old bank account, like pay cash for a brand new vehicle, make a reckless bet on a long shot at the Kentucky Derby, or have a single cocktail at the White Barn Inn in Kennebunk, Maine.

And while throwing all of that money away on a horse race may indicate that you are somewhat irresponsible with money, spending it on a Ruby Red cocktail could put you in a position to be labeled certifiably insane. That’s because this wild-eyed concoction is essentially just an alcoholic beverage laced with a little high-end booze, some fruit juice and a 4-carat ruby, which sends the price tag of this furious Mainetini up to a maniacal forty-grand.

To celebrate the 40th anniversary of The White Barn Inn, the upscale restaurant plans to offer a swanky cocktail that comes complete with a ruby gemstone, which incidentally, is the appropriate rock for celebrating a 40th wedding anniversary. However, the Inn isn’t messing around with fugazis to help benchmark their longevity in the area, as they fully intend to put an actual, super expensive ruby at the bottom of the Ruby Red cocktail.

Matthew Swinford, the maître d'hotel says that while the $40,000 cocktail may be out of some people’s price range, some of their guests will not have any issue affording such a luxury experience.

The Ruby Red Cocktail is made with Hangar 1 Vodka, St. Germain elderflower liqueur, fresh-squeezed grapefruit juice, pomegranate and a spoonful of rosewater. Those that wish to partake in the beverage without going into debt can purchase it sans ruby for $18.
