A Maine man was sentenced Monday in U.S. District Court to 20 years in prison for possessing child pornography and accessing child porn to view it.

U.S. Attorney Halsey B. Frank announced that 36-year old Derrick Coffin, of Lincoln, Maine, was sentenced to supervised release for life, 20 years in prison, and ordered to pay $13,000 when he pleaded guilty in March to accessing child pornography, with intent to view it, and for possessing it.

On March 18, 2016, Coffin had possessed hundreds of child pornography images on his laptop that were discovered during a probation check at his home, according to court records.

Coffin was subject to an  enhanced sentence due to a prior conviction for gross sexual conduct.

The investigation was conducted, in part, by U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Lincoln and Bangor Police Departments, the State of Maine Probation & Parole Office, and the Maine State Police and brought as part of Project Safe Childhood.
