A Maine man face up to 10 years in prision and a $250,000 charge for making false statements to an FFL. He faces sentencing after the investigation report.

According to court records, on October 4, 2017, 22-year old Richard R. Hemingway of Ludlow, purchased a Windham Weaponry 'WW-15' .300 BLK caliber AR-15 style rifle and a Sig Sauer 'MCX' .300LK caliber AR-15 style rifle from a Federal Firearms Licensee (FFL).

He completed a Firearms Transaction Record in which he falsely reported that he was the actual purchaser of the firearm, when in fact, Hemingway was actually buying the firearm for another individual.

Hemingway faces charges up to $250,000 and a 10 year prison sentence, if convicted, for making false statements to the FFL and up to 5 years in prison and a $250,000 charge for falsifying records.

According to Federal Law, the purchasing of firearms for another individual, or straw purchases, is illegal, unless you are buying a firearm as a gift for an immediate family member.
