Maine police were forced to unleash the Taser on a Westbrook man over the weekend, after he allegedly assaulted a couple of men costumed as popular Sci-Fi characters outside a local comic book store.

Authorities say that 31-year-old Adam Barnes was arrested at Coast City Comics on Saturday after he assaulted a man dressed as a Stormtrooper and another man dressed as a Ghostbuster during an event associated with Free Comic Book Day.

Witnesses say there were nearly a dozen people in costumes outside the store when the assault took place.

“There were a bunch of people standing outside trying to drum up business and one guy was dressed as a Stormtrooper,” said one witness. “Out of nowhere this guy tried to put [the guy in the Stormtrooper costume] in a chokehold from behind and then throws him to the ground. He was trying to be intimidating above him and screamed obscenities to everybody.”

According to a police report, when officers arrived, the 6 feet, 4-inch Barnes began taunting and threatening them so, they Tased him. Barnes, who was intoxicated at the time of his arrest, also punched a man dressed in a Ghostbuster costume, said Lieutenant Gary Hutcheson.

Barnes was taken into custody and charged with two counts of assault, disorderly conduct and multiple counts of criminal threatening.
