According to a recent article, Maine is strengthening its seat belt law by raising the fines for offenders.  Safety aside, is government taking too much control of our everyday lives?

Mayor Michael Bloomberg, among other things, tried to ban large sodas in New York City.  The city of Bangor, Maine made it illegal to smoke in your own car if there are small children inside.  The Federal government is deciding whether to take away our guns. How far is too far for government to go in the name of safety and protection when it meddles with our freedom?

I’m all for ensuring the safety and protection of our citizens but shouldn’t we allow those citizens to make their own choices, even if they are the wrong ones?  Personal responsibility needs to make a comeback.
