Twenty-two-year-old Kyle Dube of Orono was sentenced to 60 years last May in the 2013 killing of Nichole Cable. Prosecutors said Dube abducted Cable to have sex with her.

Dube's lawyers argued to the Supreme Court Wednesday that the judge made a mistake letting four witnesses testify that notes describing Cable's death were in Dube's handwriting.

They also say the prosecutor shouldn't have been allowed to tell jurors to use "common sense" to reach their verdict.

There's no time frame for the court to issue a decision in the case.
