Light It Up, Houlton! is an educational event that will include guest speakers from the community, a walk to end abuse, and a candlelight vigil in remembrance of the domestic violence victims who have been killed in Maine over the past year.  Purple glow-sticks will be provided to participants.  Purple is the color for domestic violence awareness.

“We are getting back to our roots with this event in 2016,” says Hope and Justice Project’s prevention educator, Leslie Gervais of New Limerick.  “We haven’t held a walk to end abuse in Houlton in a couple years, so this is very exciting.  We will ask community members of all ages to help us light up the night with purple to show our commitment to supporting survivors of abuse.”

The first twenty-five people to arrive at the event will receive a free Domestic Violence Awareness Month t-shirt.
