Liam Gallagher Still Loves His Brother and Admits Their Feud Is ‘Stupid’

Despite insulting him at seemingly every opportunity, Liam Gallagher wants very much to reconcile with his brother, Noel. In a new interview, the former Oasis singer says that he has tried to mend the fences for the sake of the family, only to be rebuffed.

"Obviously [our mum would] like us to be chatting, sit around the table at Christmas," he told the Sunday Times (via NME). "But it’s a stupid standoff, and we should know better, as we have kids. It would be nice for me and [Noel] to get back together as brothers. But it’s good, the standoff. I’m enjoying it. I ain’t backing down. He ain’t backing down."

Liam, who plans to release a solo album next year, believes that fame and money and drugs all combined to have a negative effect on his brother, and that largely contributed to their split. "As much as I love [Noel], he definitely did change," he continued. "I don’t care what anyone says. He’s not the first to have his ego rubbed, but he changed, mate. And obviously I don’t want to lose my brother. But you can sell loads of records, be loved -- the main success is if you get out of it pretty much the same as you went in. You live in a different house. Drive a different car. But you don’t have to turn into a nob... You can see the clientele he hangs round with. He’s on the verge of turning into Sting, but I’m blind to the bulls---. I know I’m great. I was great before I joined the band."

Questions of an Oasis reunion get bandied about seemingly every time one of them speaks to the press. Liam takes pride in the fact that, seven years after the Gallagher brothers last shared a stage, the notion of them getting back together can still make headlines.

"At least people are still talking about it. They’re obsessed," he added. "There’s no harm in it. He says s--- about me. I say s--- about him. I have held the olive branch out, and there has been nothing, so there you go. Potato it is, mate."

Six weeks ago, Liam admitted that he expects Noel to cave in at some point and embark on a reunion. “I believe Oasis will sail again and it’ll be glorious,” Liam said. “If it’s really about the fans, Noel, let’s do it – because they want it. One year. Tour for a year. We’d smash it. My bags are still packed from my last tour, so I’m ready.”
