Now that we're looking at the real possibility of another dusting of snow for much of northern and western Maine later this week, let's take a stroll down memory lane and see when we can usually expect snowfall, and how much.

According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, northern Maine usually gets its first measurable snowstorm by late October, more than a full month ahead of Boston.

The record for the earliest storm with measurable snow at Caribou was on September 29, 1991. Maine usually averages anywhere from 90-115 inches of snow per season, depending on where you are in the state.

The National Weather Service website has a load of interesting statistics, including 10-day snowfall total records, and historical data that goes back almost a century. Check it out here.

...and enjoy the white stuff this week!
