Two people escaped a fire that destroyed their home late Tuesday night in a residential neighborhood of Presque Isle.

Fifteen members of the Presque Isle Fire Department responded to the blaze at 22 Caron Street  shortly after 11 p.m., according to Capt. Vince Baldwin.  Two people and a dog who were inside the mobile home made it out safely.  The home belonging Greg Mclaughlin, Jr. was not insured.  Baldwin said the trailer and its contents were a complete loss.

The fire is believed to have started in a wood stove.  Baldwin said the occupants were alerted by smoke detectors which gave them the time to get out of the home.

The local chapter of the American Red Cross was notified of the family's loss.   They will  staying with family members for the time being.

The Presque Isle Fire Department had 2 Engines, 1 Ladder truck, 1 Tanker, and a crew of 15 at the scene, and received mutual aid from Caribou Fire Department to cover the station with 1 Engine and a crew.
