A Presque Isle man who was serving a nine-month sentence at the Maine Correctional Center for drug trafficking was found dead in the facility Wednesday afternoon.

According to reports, 35-year-old Garret J. Brewer was discovered in his cell at around 1:30pm. While Brewer’s death has been officially confirmed by the Department of Correction, there has been no detailed information released as to the cause of death.

State corrections officials say that both the Maine State Police and the Maine Medical Examiner’s Office are currently investigating his death, but they gave no indication as to when the results of that inquiry would be released to the public.

What is known is that Brewer had served nearly 66 days of a nine-month sentence he received after being indicted on two counts of unlawful trafficking in methamphetamines.
