Police say a 68-year-old man from Renous, N.B., has died following a collision Tuesday night, and a 54-year-old man has been arrested for impaired driving in connection with the crash.

Northeast District RCMP and emergency personnel responded to a two-vehicle collision on Route 108 in Renous at about 8 p.m., according to Cpl. Jason LeBlanc.

Investigators believe the victim was pulling out of his driveway when his car was struck by an oncoming pickup truck. The driver and lone occupant of the car died at the scene as a result of his injuries.

The driver of the pickup, fromWhite Rapids, N.B., was arrested at the scene for impaired driving, LeBlanc said. He was held in custody overnight and has been released on a promise to appear in Miramichi Provincial Court on April 1.

An RCMP collision reconstructionist attended the scene, and the investigation into the crash is ongoing.
