It's become almost cliche, but flying is getting more and more hellish all the time. With delayed and/or overbooked planes, increased security checks and the fact that airlines are stacking on all sorts of fees for things that used to be free, air travel is getting so stressful that there are times that it hardly seems worth it.

Now, Italian seat designer Aviointeriors is trying to make things even tighter with its new design, the "Skyrider 2.0."

And while that sounds like a cool name, just take a look at this beauty....that lets you "ride the sky in cowboy style!"

Oh hell no.

Yes, that is a standing "seat." What they want to do is force passengers into a standing/leaning position for an entire flight. And as a guy, I shudder to think what it would feel like on a bumpy flight as you straddle that huge bump!

And who really wants to ride a horse from Boston to Los Angeles? There's a reason we invented the train, car and airplane, IT'S MORE COMFORTABLE!

The Skyrider 2.0 is an innovative seat, it allows an ultra-high density in the aircraft cabin. Skyrider 2.0 opens the travelling experience to a wider passenger market, creating also a useful space for the introduction mixed classes boarded on the same aircraft...
The design of this seat enables to increase the passenger number by 20% allowing increasing profits for airline companies. Furthermore, Skyrider 2.0 weighs 50% less than standard economy class seats and the reduced number of components enable minimum maintenance costs.
In conclusion, Skyrider 2.0 is the new frontier of low cost tickets and offering a possibility to fly to whom today cannot afford it.

So, in other words, they want to cram even more people into already crowded airplanes and make us stand? And if this is the future of low-cost flying, it seems like a pretty terrible future to me.

The good news is that no airline in the world has plans to install these torture devic...err, sorry "seats" anytime soon. So, we're probably safe, because airlines really care about their customers....and by customers, I mean profits!

I'll see you on the road, where you can still get a seat!
