A woman escaped serious injury on Wednesday after the tractor-trailer she was driving went off Route 1 in Bridgewater and crashed into the snowbank.

Maine State Police responded to the crash around 2:40 p.m. High winds in the area had blown snow over the roadway and with the drop in temperature, the road became covered in ice.

Fifty-three-year-old Dallas Mojica of Lexington, Kentucky was travelling north in a 2017 Freightliner with an unloaded box trailer when she lost control on the icy road. Police say the tractor trailer skidded into the southbound lane and ended up in the snowbank. Both the tractor and trailer were severely damaged in the crash and had to be towed away.

Police say Mojica was only “slightly injured” and was not transported to the hospital.  Traffic on Route 1 was stopped intermittently for the next couple of hours until sand could be put down on the roadway.

The scene was eventually cleared and road conditions improved so traffic could move freely.

State Trooper Jared Sylvia and Lt. Brian Harris were the investigating officers. Bridgewater Fire Department Public Information Officer Matthew Powers was in contact with Townsquare Media during the incident, and we were able to inform the public of the delay in real time, saving commuters time, and easing traffic pressure for emergency responders.

Maine DOT, Aroostook County Sheriff’s Office, Maine DEP and Westerdahl’s Towing also assisted at the scene. The tractor-trailer is owned by Prime Inc.
