The crash took place at mile 189 in the northbound lanes just after 11 p.m., according to Trooper Trevor Snow.

Snow said 50-year-old Kendall Gordon Jr. of Brewer was driving a 2003 Mitsubishi when it went off the highway and into the median. The car struck a tree and overturned at least once, coming to rest on its wheels. Gordon was thrown from the car and died at the scene.

State police are investigating. They say speeding was the likely cause of the fatal crash.
