It's the opening week of the Eastern Collegiate Football Conference schedule and the two teams that were picked first and second in the preseason poll class as the Husson Eagles who were picked as the preseason favorite welcome the Spartans to the Winkin Complex. Gabby Prices Eagles are 1-1 and begin defense of their conference championship today.

Husson will try to control the game with a rushing attack that rolled up 348 yards a year ago against Castleton while holding the Spartans to just 69 yards of their own on the ground. Eagles sophomore running back John Smith got on track after a tough opening game and ran for 184 yards and 3 touchdowns in a win over Alfred State. He will be a key for the success of the Husson offense today.

The Eagles defense will be without the services of defensive end Jeff Turcotte who suffered a knee injury in practice and will be lost for the season. Linebacker Ellis Throckmorton leads the team with 18 tackles while Kenny Sweet has 15 to go along with 2 forced fumbles ans 3 interceptions.

This will be the 7th meeting between the two teams with each winning 3 times. Husson has won the last two games by a combined score of 77-34.
