For the first time in program history the Husson University softball team will play in an NCAA regional championship game after splitting a pair of games Saturday.The Eagles advanced after beating and eliminating Johnson and Wales in a 3-0 shutout. Kayla Merrill pitched the complete game 2-hitter while striking out 8 and not walking a batter while improving her record to 17-5.

Lyndsay Merrill led the offensive attack with 2 hits and 2 rbi while Haley Spiers drove in the third run for the 28-12 Eagles.

Husson will now face tournament host Wheaton College Sunday at 12 noon and need to beat the Lyons twice to take the title and advance to a super regional. Wheaton beat the Eagles 5-1 earlier in the day to stay unbeaten in the tourney.

The Eagles two wins so far matches their win total for the previous 6 trips to the regionals combined.
