State Police say 55-year-old Dorothy Holyoke-Cosme and her family were traveling north on Route 1 around 8 a.m. when her 1998 Nissan Sentra hit black ice. Holyoke-Cosme lost control of the vehicle and it crossed the center line, striking a 2009 Chevrolet Silverado which was towing a snowmobile trailer, according to Trooper Jared Sylvia.

Crews from Bridgewater and Mars Hill Fire Departments worked to extricate Holyoke-Cosme from the car. Holyoke-Cosme and her husband, 58-year-old Manuel Cosme, along with her grandchildren, ages 13 and 10, were transported by Crown Ambulance to the Houlton Regional Hospital. Police said they were being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the truck, 51-year old James Small of Leicester, Massachusetts and his passenger, 52-year-old Robert Small did not require hospitalization.

State police say Holyoke-Cosme was traveling too fast for the road conditions. Her vehicle was a total loss.

Small’s truck sustained extensive damage and the snowmobile trailer was a complete loss.
