It's costing a little bit less in Maine to run your furnace right now.

The average cash price statewide of heating oil, as of Wednesday, is at $2.96 a gallon, that according to the Governor's Energy Office. That's a nickel less then back in early November, but more expensive than last year, when the average price was $2.59 a gallon.

Kerosene prices fell as well, dropping 3 cents in the last two weeks to $3.55 a gallon. Meanwhile, propane saw a slight uptick, rising a penny over the last two weeks, to $2.89 a gallon. That's the same price as back in early November.

According to the Governor's Energy Office, crude oil prices have slipped, but heating fuel prices aren't falling at the same rate, saying that's because of local and global market forces.
