State Police say Trooper Eric Sucy responded to a report of an assault in Bridgewater and before he arrived, the suspect, 43-year-old Francis Murray, Jr. of Mars Hill left the residence in a car.

Moments later Trooper Sucy met Murray in the vehicle and attempted to stop him to speak to him about the alleged assault. Police say Murray refused to stop, leading  the Trooper on a several mile chase on Route 1 from Bridgewater to Mars Hill at speeds up to 80 m.p.h.

As Murray reached Mars Hill, the pursuit was ended with Troopers laying down a tire deflating device to disable the suspect's car.  He was then arrested after a brief struggle, according to Lt. Brian Harris.

Murray faces several charges including refusing to stop, operating under the influence, operating while revoked as well as assault and violation of a protection order.  He was taken to the Aroostook County Jail and will appear in Houlton Superior Court at a later date, Harris said.

Trooper Sucy was assisted by Trooper Carman Lilley and U.S. Border Patrol agents.
