In a huge upset Wednesday afternoon the 7th-ranked Hermon Hawks shocked the defending Class B Champion Presque Isle Wildcats to earn a berth in the championship game this weekend.

92.9 The Ticket reports the Hawks previously ousted the No. 2 MDI Trojans in the quarterfinals on their way to the semifinal match-up with the Wildcats.

On Wednesday, Hermon turned that earlier upset into confidence outplaying 2nd-ranked Presque Isle on their way to a 59-45 win, a much-more lopsided game than Wildcats are used to seeing.

In a  balanced scoring attack from the Hawks, junior Emi Higgins led the team with 20 points. Sophomore Lauren Plissey had 10 points and Alessa Oakes and Bryanne Crouse each had 8 points in the win.

Emily Wheaton had 15 points for the Wildcats.

The Hawks will face the Houlton Lady Shiretowners in the Northern Maine finals.

Houlton won the Class C State Championship last year, but this year is in Class B under division reconfiguration.
