A head-on crash late last night has left the driver who caused the accident with serious internal injuries. The other driver was not hurt.

State Police are investigating the accident that happened at around 11:15 last night on Route 1 in Monticello, near the Monticello/Littleton town line. Sergeant Brian Harris said in a press release that Patricia Perkins, age 35 of Presque Isle, was northbound on Route 1 when her car drifted over the center line into the path of a southbound car driven by Michael Trader, age 29 of New York. Trader couldn't avoid the oncoming car and the two struck head-on, totaling both vehicles.

Trader was not injured in the crash while Perkins suffered serious internal injuries. First responders had to use the Jaws of Life to remove her from the car. She was transported to Houlton Regional Hospital for treatment and then transferred to EMMC in Bangor.
