A head on collision on Route 1 in Frenchville Wednesday afternoon sent two people to the hospital.

Sgt. Jeffrey Clark of the Maine State Police said 51-year-old Melford Hafford was driving a Chevrolet pickup when he lost control on the snow and slush-covered roadway. The pickup skidded across the center line and hit a car driven by 18-year-old Kenan Lagasse of Fort Kent.

Hafford and a passenger were transported by Madawaska Ambulance to Northern Maine Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries, Sgt. Clark said. Lagasse was wearing her seat belt and was not injured in the crash.

Both vehicles had extensive damage and were towed from the scene. Trooper Nathan Desrosier responded to the crash.
