Jimmy Hayes got his first NHL hat trick as the Boston Bruins routed the Ottawa Senators 7-3 and now the B's can focus on the Winter Classis at Foxboro on Friday afternoon.

Hayes, a local kid who played at Boston College, helped fuel a Bruins offense trying to make up for the loss of the injured David Krejci. His three goals, Patrice Bergeron and Matt Beleskey had two each. The seven total are a season high. And, four powerplay goals is also a season high.

The game got really physical in the last minute when several fights broke out. There were 110 minutes in penalties handed out.

The Senators were upset by a Brad Marchand hit on Mark Borowiecki in the first period. There could be some league discipline handed down to Marchand for the hit.

NOTE: Entering the Winter Classic Outdoor Game on Friday, the B's trail Montreal by one point in the standings. The Florida Panthers actually hold down first place in the division, leading the Canadiens by a point and the Bruins by two points. The Winter Classic can be heard live on Sports Radio 92.9 The Ticket Friday at 12:30pm.
