A 23-year-old Grand Falls man has been charged with impaired driving and firearms offences following a traffic stop near the U.S. border.

Perth-Andover RCMP pulled over a driver for impaired driving on Route 190 in Carlingford, New Brunswick just before midnight on January 21.

The driver was arrested and his vehicle was searched, according to Cst. Troy Smith of the West District RCMP. During the search, police say they discovered a loaded firearm, liquor and other items inside the car.

Sheldon Toner of Grand Falls appeared in Grand Falls Provincial Court on Monday and was charged with impaired driving and five firearms-related charges.

Toner was released on conditions and is scheduled to return to court on February 24 at 9:30 a.m. to enter pleas on the charges.
