Girl Escapes ATV Crash in Glenburn That Critically Injures Driver
Police say excessive speed and alcohol were likely factors in an all-terrain vehicle crash Sunday in Glenburn that injured a 6-year-old girl and sent one man to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office said 51-year-old Ricky Rossignol of Kenduskeag was operating a 1987 Honda 4-wheeler southbound on Route 15. The man lost control as he pulled into the parking lot of Village Variety, according to Chief Deputy William Sheehan.
Rossignol and the girl were ejected from the ATV. Neither was wearing a helmet, Sheehan said.
Rossignol was transported to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor with life-threatening injuries. The girl was treated at the scene by rescue personnel.
The accident remains under investigation and will be reviewed by the District Attorney’s Office for possible criminal charges, Sheehan said.
Any witnesses to the crash who have not yet spoken with investigators were encouraged to contact the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office at 947-4585.
