Just like recent temperatures, gas prices in Maine have continues their downward plunge.

According to gasbuddy.com, the statewide average for a gallon of regular fell 6 cents in the past week to $1.79. That's 47 cents than it was one year ago. The national average decreased 4 cents in the past week to $1.69.

The average price in Northern Maine is $1.89  ($1.91 in the Valley, $1.90 in Central Aroostook and $1.88 in Southern Aroostook)

The highest price found in the Pine Tree State was $2.29 while the lowest price per gallon was $1.61.

The falling prices were attributed to a combination of high crude oil inventories and continuing low crude oil prices.
