The National Weather Service has posted a Flood Watch for all of Aroostook County until 8:p.m. Saturday.

Forecasters say temperatures will remain well above freezing Thursday night with highs into the 50s on Friday. The combination of significant snow melt along with an inch or more of rainfall may cause rises along area rivers. This may result in river flooding and may also cause river ice to break up and may result in the potential for ice jam flooding, forecasters say.

The flood watch includes Allagash, Clayton Lake, Madawaska, Fort Kent, Frenchville, Presque Isle, Caribou, Van Buren, Mars Hill, Houlton, Hodgdon, Sherman and Smyrna Mills. It also extends to Baker Lake, Billy-Jack Depot, Baxter St Park, Chamberlain Lake, Churchill Dam, Mount Katahdin, Millinocket, East Millinocket, Patten and Medway.

The National Weather Service urges people living in areas prone to flooding to be prepared to take action should flooding develop.
