A four-vehicle crash on Highway 11 in the Black River Bridge area late Thursday afternoon sent five people to hospital, one in critical condition.
Richibucto RCMP say two vehicles collided head-on at approximately 5:20 p.m. just north of St. Margarets. Two other vehicles travelling along the highway were unable to avoid the initial crash, according to Constable Eric Gerard.
Police say a 37-year-old man was hospitalized in critical condition. Two women, ages 39 and 58, and a five-year-old boy were all taken to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries. A 41-year-old man was treated and released from hospital.
An RCMP collision reconstructionist is investigating the crash.
