Maine politicians reached out to the New England franchise owners of ‘Five Guys’ restaurants asking them to start using Maine grown spuds for their french-fries.

With one location in Portland and another location to be opened soon in Bangor, U.S. Sen. Olympia Snowe, Reps. Chellie Pingree and Mike Michaud think that using Maine spuds will decrease transportation cost and promote healthier food.

So far, the popular hamburger franchise hasn’t issued an official statement.
