First Flu Death of 2014 Reported in New Brunswick
A middle-aged New Brunswick woman was the first to pass away in 2014 after complications arising from the flu.
According to New Brunswick's chief medical officer of health, Dr. Elish Cleary, Horizon Health Network has reported one death in the Fredericton area. The flu strain has not been confirmed, but officials believe it is the H1N1 strain.
Because of the reports of H1N1 flu deaths elsewhere, the public health department has asked the province's two health authorities to report any severe influenza activity.
In addition, there is one patient in the intensive care unit with the flu and another in hospital.
Anyone who has not had this year's flu vaccine is advised to get one.
