According to Sgt. Josh Haines of the Maine State Police, the Oakfield Fire Department responded to a call at around 3:00am Thursday at 623 River Rd.

A short time later, State Police and the State Fire Marshall's Office were notified of missing copper pipes and tools from the residence and authorities say the cause of the fire seems suspicious.

The summer home belongs to Shirley Smith of Arizona and was insured.

The theft and fire investigations are ongoing and the State Police and Fire Marshall’s Office encourage anyone with information or traveling the River Rd early this morning to call the State Police Barracks in Houlton at (207) 532-5400 and ask for Trooper Dennis Quint or FMO Investigator Ed Archer.

Maine DEP assisted Oakfield Fire with the cleanup at the scene.
