The blaze at a small home on the Martin Road in Sainte-Anne-de-Madawaska broke out shortly before 9 pm, according to CIMT-TV.  The home was already fully involved when firefighters arrived.

The man had reportedly built the home himself in a wooded area. It was not covered by insurance.  Within moments after word about the fire reached the small community, residents stepped forward to offer aid. The Canadian Red Cross is also providing emergency assistance to the man during his tragedy.

The fire is thought to have originated in the chimney of the house. The Sainte-Anne Fire Department is investigating to find the exact cause.
