A fire in the Marden's parking lot on north Main Street in Presque Isle Wednesday afternoon destroyed three vehicles parked side-by-side.

The Presque Isle Fire Department responded to the call around 3:30 p.m. and found three SUVS in flames with thick black smoke billowing through the parking lot. Captain Vince Baldwin said the blaze started in the cab of the middle SUV, then spread to the two vehicles on either side.

There were no witnesses to the initial phase of the fire, Baldwin said. The owners were shopping at the time the fire broke out.

All three SUV’s were a total loss. No one was injured.

Capt. Baldwin said the cause of the blaze remains under investigation, but it may never be determined due to the extent of the damage.
