Firefighters from five communities worked together to try to save a home in Saint-Léonard on Sunday.

The fire broke out shortly after 3 p.m. at a residence on Highway 17, about 6 miles from the border. Crews from Saint-Léonard, Saint-André, Grand Falls, Grand Isle and Van Buren responded to the blaze.

Officials say the occupants of the single-story home were able to make it out safely, and one person had to be treated for smoke inhalation.

Crews remained at the scene well into the evening Sunday. There was extensive damage to the home.

No word yet on the cause of the fire.
