A family of six was displaced by a fire that extensively damaged their house Friday night in Drummond, New Brunswick, just east of Grand Falls.

The fire was reported sometime before 7 p.m. Friday on Drummond Station Road, according to Dan Bedell of the Canadian Red Cross.

The Drummond Fire Department worked to contain the blaze as temperatures dropped to around -22°C.

Most of the fire damage was contained to one section of the house. There was smoke damage throughout.  Officials say the fire was electrical in nature. No one was injured.

Disaster volunteers with the Red Cross are assisting the couple and their four children with emergency lodging, food and clothing.

The children range in age from 4 to 13.
