TV series adapted from Sylvester Stallone’s greatest hits haven’t fared so well between Rambo or The Expendables, but the latter at least may yet fight another day. After FOX passed on the prospect, The Expendables TV series will be shopped to other networks by producer Shane Brennan.

According to Deadline, NCIS: Los Angeles creator Shane Brennan step down as showrunner (albeit remaining an executive producer), in order to focus on development. Among those, the proposed Expendables TV series from CBS Television Studios and Lionsgate TV will move on from its initial FOX association in order to shop to other networks and digital distributors.

At the time of its 2015 development, Stallone was to executive produce the proposed Expendables series with film producer Avi Lerner, Greg Coolidge and Kirk Ward writing under executive showrunner Shane Brennan. The report described the series as “a fun action drama that unites iconic TV stars as a new team of highly-skilled heroes who are on a mission to stop a dangerous terrorist.”

It doesn’t appear as if The Expendables franchise is going anywhere after The Expendables 3, partially owing to an early leak of the film, as well as its switch to PG-13 action, while the female-driven Expendabelles also appears to have been shelved.

Is there any hope for a series at this point, or have The Expendables been put out to pasture?
