The fire started in a ground floor apartment and was reported around 7 a.m. The blaze was confined to a couple of apartments in the three story building. Electricity was disconnected and thick smoke spread, according to the Canadian Red Cross.

Eleven adults and four children are getting emergency lodging, clothing and food purchases from the Red Cross. Up to seven more tenants will get support through the day from disaster volunteers and from the local Red Cross office a few blocks away. One of the tenents needed to be treated for minor burns at the hospital, spokesman Dan Bedell said.

One man whose apartment was not significantly affected by the fire did not require any emergency assistance. Others include several students of the Woodstock campus of New Brunswick Community College.
