Don't be surprised when two of the top Division III baseball teams in New England meet this afternoon, the USM Huskies and UMass Boston, that Jake Dexter is right in the middle of whatever happens.

Move over Shohei Ohtani.

Dexter is the Huskies version of the two-way player. The former Messalonskee HS standout is a junior for coach Ed Flaherty's 16-6 Huskies. He has played second base in all 22 games, hitting .379 with two HRs and 21 RBI. Dexter has scored 18 runs.

On the mound, Dexter is the USM closer, appearing in 12 games, getting two wins and eight saves. In 14.2 innings, Dexter has 20 strikeouts, walked just two and has an ERA of 1.84. He now owns the USM career saves record with 21.

This is not a new thing for Dexter. Last season, he was named All-LEC first teamer as a second baseman and relief pitcher. He was an ABCA/Rawlings D-III All-American 2nd Teamer as a utility player.

NOTE: Today's 3pm game in Boston features 22-5 (6-0 Little East Conference) #1 UMass Boston hosting the #2 Huskies at 16-6 (5-1 LEC). It will be the first of two regular season meetings beween the Huskies and Beacons.
