Two of Eastern Maine's top high school pitchers have signed on the dotted line to play college ball for the UMaine Black Bears. Bangor's Trevor DeLaite and Brewer's Matt Pushard are Orono bound.

The early signing period for signing period for signing a National Letter of Intent is November 11th though November 18th.

Pushard is a pitcher-first baseman for the Witches. He helped lead Brewer to a 14-5 last spring and was named to the KVAC all conference team. Pushard threw a no hitter against Mt. Blue in the semi-final game before losing a 1-0 game to Bangor in the regional final.

Pushard lost that game to Bangor lefty pitcher Trevor DeLaite who also signed his NLI with UMaine today.

DeLaite helped lead Bangor to back-to-back state titles in both high school and American Legion baseball. He went undefeated on the mound with both teams.

Also signing to play for the Bears next season was Cody Lawyerson, a pitcher and shortstop from Valley High School in Bingham.

Bangor Rams softball/soccer/basketball standout Emily Gilmore signed with UMaine softball today.

Gilmore was the goalkeeper for the Rams soccer team that won the Class A state title last Saturday.

On the softball field, Gilmore led the Rams to a Eastern Maine championship game appearance last spring. She hit .478 with 5 HR.

At MDI High School, Sierra Tapley signed her National Letter of Intent to play UMaine basketball and Kelsey Shaw signed to play for Division II Stonehill.

Tapley and Shaw helped lead the Trojans to an 18-0 regular season last winter bore getting knocked off by Gardiner in the tournament.

Tapley was named Big East Conference Player of the Year.

 

NOTE:  Oxford Hills HS 6-foot-7 center Andrew Flemming signed his NLI with the UMaine men's basketball program. He averaged 16.5 PPG and 12 RBG last year for the Vikings.
