Craig Owens has been in and out of Chiodos over the years, and the singer reveals that the band that helped launch his career is no more. Speaking with Billboard, Owens not only confirmed the split, but also revealed he's pivoting toward a new sound for his new project BXC.

"It's done," says Owens of Chiodos. "It just couldn't stay afloat. There were just kind of, not necessarily bad vibes, but we came to the realization that we can't do it full-time. I think it just stopped becoming a passion for all of us, so we said, 'Alright, let's stop.'"

During the band's tenure, Owens sang on their well-received 2005 debut All's Well That Ends Well and the 2007 follow-up Bone Palace Ballet before exiting the group ahead of their third album. He returned for the band's fourth studio, 2014's Devil, but as we now know thanks to Owens' statement, that will be their final offering.

So where does that leave Owens? The singer is starting anew with BXC, also known as badXchannels, a project that strays quite a bit from what fans have come to expect from the singer. He's belting what he calls his version of chill alternative soul and is prepping the new EP, WHYDFML, expected on Nov. 18. His first new song and video for "One Car Funeral" can be seen above.

"This was the most natural thing I could do," Owens tells Billboard. "It just feels right. It just feels natural. It's just the right time for me right now, in my life, to do this." He adds that he's enjoying the idea that he can surprise people with BXC, but also says that it's a bit scary making that leap as well.

"Alienating a whole group of people that supported me to get me to where I am now and turning my back on them -- it's not like that at all," says Owens. "I've played it for people who can't comprehend it, people close to me. I kind of expected it to be like that. But I think people are embracing it, and they like the fresh vibes. I think I'm at a point where people have some faith in me and will give me a pass to go somewhere new."

Owens is taking badXchannels on the road later this month, starting with a show Nov. 17 at Indianapolis' Emerson Theater. Dates will continue into mid-December wrapping on Dec. 11 in Philadelphia. For info on all shows, click here. And if you want to pre-order WHYDFML, head here.
