On yesterday's show I debuted the new Metallica cover that is a medley in tribute to the late Ronnie James Dio. It comes from a full tribute album that is available now called 'This is Your Life: A Tribute to Ronnie James Dio.' The song kicked. So much so that I liked it better than Dio's versions. It got me thinking about all the cover songs that are sometimes better than the originals. I'm usually a guy who says you can't beat the original but let's face it, sometimes it's undeniable.

Case in point, almost every Bob Dylan cover. I love the man and his writing, but I'll never be able to listen to his version of 'All Along the Watchtower' now that I've heard Hendrix cover it. The same could be said for Santana's cover of Fleetwood Mac's 'Black Magic Woman.' The list goes on. This is not to take anything away from the original artist who, more often than not, wrote the song. Dylan is a genius but sometimes another performer will take the song to a completely new and exciting place.
