Congressional Field Hearing on National Monument in Katahdin
On Wednesday, June 1, from 2:00 - 3:30 p.m., the House Committee on Natural Resources will hold an official congressional field hearing at the East Millinocket Town Office.
The field hearing is at the request of Maine’s 2nd District Congressman, Bruce Poliquin, on the proposed unilateral national monument designation in the North Woods by the White House. Congressman Poliquin will also hold a local and stakeholder input session after the hearing for local constituents to provide their input to be added to the official Congressional Record.
More than 60 individuals on all sides of the issue and mostly from the Katahdin region have signed up. Officials will also participate in a tour before the hearing of the Katahdin region’s working forest, the local logging operations and the logging roads, all of which would be impacted by a proposed national monument.
