City Departments Prepare For Relocation Ahead Of Bangor City Hall Renovation

Where will you go to pay your sewer bill, register your dog, or pick up a copy of your birth certificate?

Where will you go if you have a code enforcement issue, a question for the Assessor, or register to vote?

These are all departments, within the first floor of the Bangor City Hall, that residents seek access to each day. They are all departments that are going to be temporarily relocated from the first floor of the historic building, as that space will be undergoing renovations soon.

The Bangor City Council voted Monday night to allow the City to lease part of the Penquis Building at 262 Harlow Street, right down the hill from where City Hall is now.

The measure secures 13,400+ square feet of office space, meeting space, and 10 parking spaces for City employees.

Bangor's Finance Director, David Little says now that the lease has been approved, the various City Departments that will have to relocate can come up with a plan to do so, likely within the next month.

The almost 9 Million Dollar Bangor City Hall renovation project, will completely overhaul the first floor with the new design, combining the more front-facing customer offices such as the Treasury Department and City Clerk Office, and will also update the HVAC system and elevator at the current City Hall building, is slated to take about 18 months to complete.

The lease of the space at the Penquis building goes for two years, with an option to end early, if the project is completed before that.
