Did You Know Carrie Underwood Was Inspired by Stephen King?

Aside from her first name being the title of Stephen King’s first novel, Carrie Underwood has taken major inspiration from 'The King of Horror.'

And her inspiration, ironically, didn’t come from 'Carrie,' at least as far as we know.

'Carrie' focuses on a shy high school girl named Carrie White who discovers she has telekinetic powers. Bullied by her classmates and abused by her family, Carrie's powers manifest in destructive ways. As tensions build, Carrie is pushed to the brink, leading to a tragic and unforgettable prom night where her powers are unleashed with devastating consequences, changing the Maine town of Chamberlain forever.

The novel was released in 1974, with a film adaptation being released a couple of years later. Carrie Underwood was born in 1983, and while we couldn’t find concrete evidence that the future American Idol winner was specifically named after the Stephen King character, given the story's success and the era, it wouldn’t be surprising.

However, this isn’t the Stephen King story that we want to focus on in regards to Carrie Underwood.

This music video from Underwood’s fourth studio album, 'Blown Away,' 'Two Black Cadillacs,' draws heavy inspiration from Stephen King’s book 'Christine.'

'Christine' is about a possessed, evil car. The story follows a high school student who becomes obsessed with restoring the car, which he, of course, names Christine.
