A 31-year-old Caribou man was sentenced Thursday for his part in a drug operation that brought bath salts into Aroostook County over a 2 1/2 year period.

Dustin Giles was sentenced in U.S. District Court Bangor to 28 months in prison to be followed by three years of supervised release for conspiring to distribute bath salts, according to U. S. Attorney Thomas Delahanty. Giles pleaded guilty to the charge on January 12,

According to court records, between January 2012 and June 2014, Giles conspired with others in Aroostook County to obtain bath salts overseas via the internet and distribute it.  Specifically, Giles was supplied with bath salts by another member of the conspiracy and distributed it to multiple customers.

Giles could have faced up to 20 years in prison and a 1 million dollar fine.

The case was investigated by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency with assistance from the Aroostook County Sheriff’s Department and the U.S. Postal Inspection Service.
