A Caribou family was displaced by a fire that caused extensive damage to their home early Saturday morning.

The fire on Pleasant Street was reported at 1:21 a.m., according to Capt. Mike McCarthy of the Caribou Fire Department. Firefighters arrived within a matter of minutes and found flames shooting up the back of the two-story home. The fire was in the back porch and deck area but had worked its way inside the home, McCarthy said.

Nineteen firefighters worked to bring the blaze under control and were on the scene until about 4:00 a.m. Saturday. The family members made it out safely and there were no injuries reported. McCarthy said there was significant damage and the home is not currently livable.

The fire was not suspicious, but the Maine State Fire Marshall's Office is investigating to determine the exact cause.

Presque Isle Fire Department provided mutual aid at the Caribou station.
