The Androscoggin County grand jury indicted 32-year-old Dale Doughty on Tuesday for domestic violence and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, according to State Police spokesman Steve McCausland.

Troopers said Doughty was a passenger of the Jeep his wife was driving when he grabbed the steering wheel and caused the vehicle to crash into a rock wall. The crash happened on August 2nd along Route 108 near the Canton-Livermore town line.

State Police said Doughty expected the crash to kill both himself and his wife, but the two survived. Both were hospitalized with serious injuries and have since been released. Mr. Doughty was arrested following his release from the hospital and is now being held at the Androscoggin County Jail.

His wife's name is being withheld because she is the victim of domestic violence.
