So Halloween is this week and if you’re like me, you have a clause in your make-believe parenting contract that allows the Moms and Dads to consume 60 percent of your child’s candy because you don’t want them to become “unhealthy.” One way to combat the sudden calorie intake is to watch a scary movie.  No, really!

Research shows that viewers who put themselves through 90 minutes of adrenaline-pumping terror can use up as much as 113 calories.  What was the flick that burned the most calories?  Stephen King’s “The Shining,” which slashed an average of 184 calories.  The study also found that movies that contain moments that cause viewers to jump in terror are even better since it causes your heart rate to go up.

So this Halloween, after the kids are all candied and crashed out, raid their bags for the good stuff and switch on a scary movie.  Be careful though, nights like this can be a lot like hurricanes – leading to an unexpected extra goblin in your future.

What scary movie gets your blood pumping?  Leave a comment on facebook.
