Bangor's Jesse Speirs is one good golf weekend away from playing full-time on the Web.com Tour next year. The final stage of qualifying started today in Florida.

In Thursday's first round, Speirs shot a 4-under par 68. He is in a logjam of players in a tie for 15th spot.

The grueling and expensive tour qualifying process goes through three stages. He made the cut in the first two stages and that gets him into some Web.com Tour events for 2016.

If he finishes among the top 45 in the 4-day qualifier in Florida this week he will be a full-time tour player.

The Web.com Tour is the triple-A tour of golf and players know that how you do on this tour determines whether or not you get to compete on the PGA Tour.

Speirs, who is a former Greater Bangor Open Tourney winner, has tried to qualify in past years but this is the first time he has made it to the third and final qualifying stage.

He will be competing against 150 other golfers who all have the same dream as Speirs - to one day compete on that lucrative PGA Tour.
